From early childhood, founder and president Doug McKellar, was raised in a logging family in Northern California and worked in the woods in every facet of the timber industry. From the very loggers and logging equipment operators that served for generations in the Pacific Northwest Region of California Doug learned the timber and equipment skills he uses today.
Armed with this solid logging foundation, Doug took those skills to the U.S. Forest Service where he operated as a Faller on wildland fire crews, falling hundreds of hazard, dead and/or dying trees. In 2003 Doug recognized the need for his skill set in the mountains of southern California where the Bark Beetle infestation was devastating vast sections in the forests of the region. Doug then formed McKellar Tree Service & Logging, Inc. and moved to the area to help stop the plague of beetles and protect homes in the area.
Doug went on to pursue line clearance work for Southern California Edison and PG&E. While contracting for them, he removed thousands of trees that threatened the power infrastructure and homes in the area. He also worked with the National Resource Conservation Service to help perform preventative fire protection measures and vegetation management work on tens of thousands of acres of private land. In doing so, Doug helped create fire breaks, shaded fuel breaks and fuel reduction programs. He also performed fire prevention work and clearing projects for private land owners while continuing to provide the U.S. Forest Service with heavy equipment and Fallers serving as wildland fire fighting teams.
Doug has since relocated his company into the north eastern mountain regions of California where there is a strong need for his specialty tree work and vegetation management, and where the bulk of the wildland fires rage during fire season.
With his knowledge and expertise, Doug has hand selected and trained his crews to be some of the best, most well-rounded tree service technicians in the industry. With his extensive experience and leadership, they perform some of the best tree work in the industry.
